Just For Fun
I just posted this ad on Craigslist Philadelphia. Not sure about the wording, but just trying to draw people out. Any suggestions?
I guess I have this sense that God wants to do something big in Philly among people my age (1,482 weeks) but that there are some barriers. I don't even know what I'm talking about, but when we throw parties at our house, I notice that it seems like people are hungry for something more than just church but don't know where to go for it. It seems like people want to do something radical, but feel alone. In my head I imagine a bunch of people coming together and having these great conversations. They don't have to do anything together, but just bounce ideas around and provide support to each other. And have some fun.
This idea might later turn into a "speaker series" or somesuch. I've been fielding questions to some friends for a few months and everyone seems to think it's a good idea. The concept would be to get the writers and thinkers who have influenced us to come and share something with us and stick around for some dialog. We can fit about 80 people (I estimate...) on folding chairs in our downstairs. I think that would be a good size group. Imagine 80 young people (are we still called that? Is there a better term?) coming together on a monthly basis to dialog with the people who have inspired them. I think that would be cool.
Can I get some love for this idea? $5 to the first non-roommate who leaves a comment.

I think it's a great idea and I would definitely be interested in participating in something like that. I really enjoyed what you commented to me earlier about having it be a mix of professional speakers and just regular people who have profound things to share. Let me know if you get it started up.

In some ways, what you are suggesting is similar to what cohorts who are linked to Emergent are doing: getting people together, often in public, for conversations. Let me know if you get something started. In particulare, if you get authors or something coming through the area, perhaps we can drag them north 2 hours to Scranton.
