"Evangaholism"

Bible.

Last night, after a long game of poker, my friend Paul and I walked to the Chinese store at 2am or so to get our late night health food fix. On the way there, my Cambodian neighbors about ten houses down were sitting outside drinking beer and whiskey and eating some nice stew. I shouted "Hey neighbors!" and they invited us up on their steps for a drink or two. We first went and got our Chinese food and then hung out with them for the next three or so hours. We had already drank our fair share of beer, but they insisted that we do some shots with them. Never ones to offend, we acquiesed. So it was a good time. We know some people in common and we swapped stories about the neighborhood, where we came from, and so on.

I talked a lot about our church, since that was my initial connection to the neighborhood. Linda is in her 30's and has three kids and she expressed a strong interest in visiting the church. She said she read the Bible every day, which is more than I can say. So we got along great and I look forward to inviting her to church soon. Needless to say, this morning wasn't really an option.

So what can I say? I got drunk with my neighbors an invited them to church. Am I a bad Christian? Last time I did that, someone actually got saved and stuck with it. So I'm hoping to go two for two.

I came up with the word "Evangaholism" today on my way to dinner at a friend's house. I thought it was clever. There is something very appealing to me about just chilling with people and having a good time. Obviously, I want everyone to be safe and healthy. But sometimes we get so caught up in our strict disciplined lifestyles that we can't really relate to people. So I don't know. I'm no expert and I wouldn't endorse drinking as a means of evangelism, but I had a lot of fun last night. I shared with my neighbors honestly and openly and they did the same with me. I hope something good comes out of it.
