CCDA Jumps Off
I was given the fun job of going down to the Marriott to pick up Dr. Perkins this morning to take him to a breakfast at the Salvation Army. A change of plans made it just him and I. He got into the car and launched into his opinion of pending gun legislation here. I thought that was pretty funny. ("Hi, how are you? You know this gun thing...")
After the breakfast, I had to get him to his next appointment at the hotel on time. Getting this man to an appointment by dragging him through a registration line full of people who have all been deeply inspired by him wasn't the brightest idea, but he made it on time, more or less. Sometimes the shortest distance between two points is the one that avoids the most people.
In reality though, what I like about CCDA is the people. The teaching is great, but more than anything I am encouraged to see so many people trying to follow Jesus in practical ways in all kinds of environments. To see all these people is cool, but to see them all here in Philly is excellent.
I met some wonderful people at the Salvation Army and met the woman in charge of the soon-to-be-built Kroc Center which will be just down the road from here. I already put in a plug for a job. I also let the Executive Director know that I will be calling her next week in my current capacity as salesman for ServiceMaster. Hustlin' for Jesus.
I came home to take care of a couple things and pick up my neighbor George. I hope he's home. He reminds me a lot of Dr. Perkins. He has that same knack for taking big ideas and making them simple and making you want to go try them. He's been reading about Dr. Perkins and I look forward to the two of them meeting.
I have a headache now. Going to take some Excedrin, get some health food from Taco Bell, round up George if I can, and head back downtown for the evening plenary sessions. I'm glad that CCDA is here.
p.s. - there's a good chance that a week from today I'll be on a plane to South Africa. More later.
