Weekend Update

I'll be spending the weekend with a pastor in Pretoria named Patrick, so I probably won't have internet access, but I could be wrong.  I'm just going to go and hang out with him and his church.  It should be a good time.

Last night, I went to a tent revival meeting for a local Assemblies of God church in one of the villages.  They made me get up and speak as if I was a visiting pastor or something.  That was funny.  But I was very moved by the preceeding worship time and so I said something about how incredible it is to me that the name of Jesus Christ is worshipped all over the world.  Also, since family history and geneologies are so important here, that if we believe in Jesus we are all one family and his name is the most important in our history.

The sermon was partly about ancestor worship which is very prominent here.  My friend Philip invited me to go and he preached out of Revelation and how Jesus is the only one who is worth to open the seven seals and how all of creation says "holy, holy, holy" to him.  He called it "Jesus is My Superhero."  It was really interesting.  Several people came forward to repent and claim Jesus as the only "hero" in their life.   The worship was a lot of fun.  I was the only white person in the tent and felt that my attempts at keeping up with the dancing going on around me were probably being watched by everyone, especially since I am about a foot taller than the average South African man.

Anyway, it was a good time.  I'm hoping to have a good time with Patrick as well.  I'll update when I have a chance.
