It's a Sobering Thing

Sending a text message to an HIV positive friend in South Africa and half scared of getting bad news in response, or worse, no response at all.

Okay, maybe that's a bit melodramatic, but it's true. I've never had that kind of feeling when contacting a friend a month after I saw them last, but it seems justified from what I've seen of HIV. If your CD4 count is low enough and you get sick, it's a slippery slope.
