Mills Brothers in Starbucks
I'm sitting in a Starbucks in Pasadena and the Mills Brothers are playing over the speakers. My grandfather, father, and myself have all enjoyed the music of the Mills Brothers, a jazz foursome from Piqua, Ohio who rose to fame in the '30s. Now Starbucks is playing them and somehow I'm offended. The Mills Brothers have always been one of those bands whose name I drop when I want to appear cooler, more musically sophisticated, than someone else. They were popular back in their day, but for people my age they remain a secret. Bands like the Mills Brothers are what separate the casual from the serious music listener. Starbucks is letting the cat out of the bag on one of the staples of my esoteric music collection!

So I guess that makes you...Starbucks Cool...because you and starbucks have similar taste.
I'm not smart enough to understand the menu at Starbucks, so I don't know if it's good or bad to be "Starbucks Cool."
The barista's or whatever always look disappointed when I order my usual "medium black coffee." No venti or whatever weird sizes they have and no mocha frappa latte chino half caf business. It's a world unto itself over there and I feel like an illegal alien.
one of the many starbucks that you can find on any corner it seems in the world.
don't know how long your on this coast but if you like jazz-you should check out Steamers Cafe in Fullerton.
make that two of us who order tall black coffee...
and thanks for coming out, it's been a blessing having you here
