State Representative Tony Payton, Jr.

When Rep. Payton was running for office, we tried to connect and weren't able to. Bumped into him today and had a lengthy chat. I liked his attitude. Born in 1981, he is probably the youngest State Rep. out there. I admire the courage it must take to do what he does at such a young age. He doesn't come across as cocky or trying to compensate for his youth. He comes across as reasonable and intelligent. I hope he grows into a great servant of Philadelphia.

GUY D. LEWIS RECEIVES THE ENDORSEMENT OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY

On Saturday, January 26, 2008, political newcomer Guy D. Lewis was endorsed by the Democratic Caucus for the 179th Legislative District as the Democratic Candidate for the upcoming primary. Lewis won the endorsement in a vote taken after he and another candidate, the incumbent, presented their creditentals and policy positions to the leaders of the 23rd, 35th, 42nd, 43rd, 49th, and 62nd wards. The Democratic Party announced their endorsement for Guy D. Lewis for State Representative for the 179th Legislative District.

Guy Lewis was born, raised, educated and lives in the legislative district. He was born September 9, 1954 in the Frankford section of the city. He attended and graduated from the neighborhood schools including Alexander Henry Elementary School (located on the current site of Stearne Elementary School), and Warren G. Guy wanted to study machine construction in high school so in his senior year of junior high school he applied, took and passed the admissions examination for entrance to Jules E. Mastbaum Vocational Technical High School.

After graduating from High School, he worked in the family’s grocery store prior to training and becoming a state certified Emergency Medical Technician. Guy earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Temple University and a Masters degree in Health Education from Saint Joseph’s University. He presently works at Temple hospital and teaches in the Mid-Atlantic consortium charter school system part-time. He’s a decorated officer in the United State’s Army and a Veteran of the Persian Gulf War. The 23rd Ward Leader, Dan Savage said, " Guy is a genuine leader with a proven record in and outside of the district. I am looking forward to working with someone who understands the district and cares for the people".
