Another Wild Idea

I'm turning thirty in September and so I was having a premature mid-life crisis while I was in line for the drive-in window at Checkers/Rally's. I have to do something big for my thirtieth birthday. I guess I feel like I have to prove something.

So I've been thinking about marathons, cross country trips, etc. Today I thought about the Appalachian trail. And, of course, I started wondering how I could turn that into a fundraiser for Ayuda. But I don't really even know where the App. Trail goes and I can't see how that journey connects to Hunting Park.

So then I started thinking about something like this: What if I just walked around the neighborhood for a month wearing a pedometer and got people to pledge a certain amount per step? I would set a certain boundary and just stay within that area, walking, getting to know the place better, and raising money with each step. I'm just kind of playing with this idea. Re-tooling the concept of walkathon/cross-country fundraisers. Let me know what you think. I gotta do something!

See... you know how to mark an occasion! Here I was planning a tattoo for my 40th. Hm.

Whatever you decide, keep us posted... I'm sure I'll want in on it in some way.

ps. love the header.

Dude. You could walk to Montana (and then hitchhike back). And then write a book about it. And if you could grow your hair / beard like in that picture, you could probably pick up a wife while you're out here.
