High society moves north up Broad Street

Philadelphia Magazine ranked Osteria, just north of Spring Garden on Broad Street, as the top restaurant in Philly. I think it's going to be a while before my favorite spots, El Greco Pizza, Lucky Garden Chinese Takeout, and Tierra Colombiana get this kind of attention.

Marc Vetri could have opened his second restaurant anywhere, but he chose a still-gritty neighborhood where Fairmount meets North Philly. Designer Michael Gruber merits a mention for turning what was once a drab section of parking garage into an airy industrial-chic dining room and open kitchen that glows with good feeling.
