Podcast Reaches 1,000 Downloads
My podcast reached 1,000 downloads tonight. I put the first post up on December 3. I feel really cool. It's really amzaing that stuff that I made has been viewed or listened to a thousand times in a few weeks. I'm hoping to be able to leverage that type of exposure later when I launch a couple of fundraising campaigns for my church's school, Hunting Park Christian Academy, and the warehouse that I am working to develop for them. That is the primary reason I set up the podcast, so that I could learn the technology and utilize it for things here in the neighborhood. Howard Dean was very successful at funding his campaign through online donations and I am interested to see if our ministries here can't also take advantage of these new media technologies. Our church and neighborhood have so few outside connections. I have always viewed myself as a bridge to resources here. I believe that more than initiative or skills, what people in this neighborhood lack most is access to resources and powerful people. I grew up in the midwest and just happen to enjoy meeting all kinds of people. I have always had a knack for finding "important" people and getting into a conversation with them. I love to network and schmooze. For a long time now, I have seen my role here as someone to go out and tell the story of Hunting Park to the world. To tell of the hope and beauty here and challenge the things people hear on the news. To communicate what I feel when I walk through my park, have a great exchange with a neighbor, or get a perfect cheese steak from the corner store. To remind my neighbors and outsiders that God loves this neighborhood and that he lives here. I hope that these new technologies will allow me to tell the story of Hunting Park to a broad audience. I believe that as a Christian I am called to be an advocate for my neighbors and this neighborhood. My dream is that somehow I can strengthen the flow of beauty and resources back and forth from this neighborhood to the outside world and vice versa. So if you ever wonder what my agenda is, now you know. Well, a side agenda might be that if I put enough stuff out on the internet, maybe some very spiritual hottie will accidentally click on a link to something of mine and fall in love with me and my neighborhood. Hmm....

Wow! I just sorta stumbled onto your blog, as a link from another blog I read, and I'm really enjoying the read.
My family and I attend a church in New York City that seems to have similar ways and thoughts to what you guys talk about in your blog and your podcast.
And my husband is originally from Philly, so next time we're there, we definitely have to visit your church.
Anyway, just thought I'd let you know I'm enjoying your "records".
