Race Smatters

I usually tell people that our neighborhood is about 50% black and 50% latino and 10% other. That's right, we're ten percent better than your neighborhood. But my numbers were way off.

Here's how it broke down in 2000 for US Census tract 197:

Asian: 73 (1.02%)
Black: 2,776 (38.88%)
Hispanic or Latino: 4,186 (58.64%)
White: 1,313 (18.39%)
Some Other Race: 2,616 (36.64%)
For those of you keeping score at home, that's 153.57%. We're even better than I thought.

(What does smatter mean?)
